NECTR Timepiece Review 001:
Fossil Flynn Automatic Watch
(Stainless Steel, Black Model)
Time·piece
/ˈtīmˌpēs/
noun
- An instrument, such as a clock or watch, for measuring time.
The invention of the ‘timepiece’ is said to have occurred sometime between the 15th and 16th century, giving humanity a somewhat presentable 500 years’ worth of ‘technological evolution’ in hindsight. Some examples of pre-tech age mutations- the inclusion of the balance spring, the quartz crystal, up to where we commonly know them to be placed today, the wrist watch. Arguably, the most noticeable thing we use (or used) them for, which is telling time, has also slowly evolved.
Nowadays, we wear smart(er) watches. Watches that regurgitate the weather or can order you some takeout while hitting the treadmill at the gym. These are magic moments in modern human history, or tragic moments, like no need for them at all. The time is now on our phones, home appliances, and even parking meters. Either way, the progression of time telling is astounding and impressive. We hope in due time, with time in mind, whether fashionably told or technologically relayed, NECTR timepiece review becomes synonymous with the NECTR Blog Channel.
Thank you, and Welcome to NECTR, and welcome to our first installment of timepiece reviews. I, Bennie Castle, have taken it upon myself to purchase these watches and review them in these blog installments. Not for the company’s sake, not for the money, and definitely not for the crm because they’re free to read. If anything, it’s in behalf of man (you’re welcome, Brando) and technology. Also in behalf of research and getting in character while learning to be time-aware in a time-ridden city like New York, while wrapping up Fairytale. The Music Album (MAY. 2025 AD. Please, regurgitate that unto your smart watch!)
Review:
The Fossil Group, founded in 1984 by Tom Kartsoti, is renowned as a modern American ‘Fashion Watch’ company. Something unique, in the sense that most ‘watch aficionados’ would discredit and vomit at the term, ‘fashion watch.’ But we are not most ‘watch aficionados’, we are NECTR Channel, and we side with the public consumer (we apologize, Philippe). Just because most snobbish ‘online watch-fans’ live with their noses in the air, pretending NOT to smell the fake leather coming off of their knockoff Rolexes, will not discourage us from covering economically friendly, and, for the most part, ‘fashion watches’ in part for the general public consumer and as a triple-form hobby, (Webdev > building ships in bottles.)
Product Details of Fossil’s Flynn Automatic Watch
Facts
The Flynn Automatic Watch is our Fossil timepiece of interest this week. At retail price, the Flynn Automatic starts around $270 (currently 50% off on their official website!), making it an economic option. The Flynn is a three-handed watch, telling the hour, minutes, and seconds of the day. There’s no battery inside, being an automatic watch, be prepared to wind the watch. Once complete, expect the mechanisms within to be active for about 35 hours. Also, expect a jeweler’s expertise or having to purchase equipment to resize the links. The Flynn is water resistant to a certain degree, being 5 ATM, so no snorkeling.
Opinions
This is a Thinker’s and Tinker’s watch. Yes, it’s considered a ‘fashion watch,’ and has versatility as a business casual watch, but in retrospect, it becomes the perfect gift for those who ponder with their time. The hints of purple from the mineral crystal are stunning, adding depth to the semi-skeletonized face of the watch. It allows you to get your own ‘gears going,’ as the second hand glides by.
I bought this watch intending to get lost within my writing instead of getting lost on my phone. I sat myself down some weeks ago, while writing drafts for certain works, and noticed how time escaped from me, especially when looking at the time ON my phone. Isn’t it ironic? I would unlock it, open an app, and end up wasting an hour or so, simply scrolling through social media. Since the purchase, I’ve noticed how right I was, a stroke of genius, maybe, or common sense. The illustrative sense of grasping time finally kicks in. I would sit for a quarter of an hour, write sufficient amounts of paragraphs, and perhaps edit for another 15 minutes. The writing would flawlessly get done now with no apps to distract me. Although I would suggest you wind the watch at the start of each day to keep it accurate.
Conclusion and Rating
To put the bow on our 1st cornerstone article, and timepiece installment, the Flynn Automatic Watch is a creative’s watch. Yes, it is quite fashionable as well, something for a wedding reception or a graduation gift maybe even but in reality, the glossy look, with hints of mineral crystals and the smooth, gliding of the ‘seconds hand’ makes this watch the perfect gift for the wrist of those who have the other busy with a pen and pad. The only real problem I’ve had is the frequent loss of minutes. The worst case is about 10 minutes or so if not wound properly. We give the Flynn Automatic Watch a 4 out of 5 for our review simply because of it. Other than that, this makes for the perfect 1st watch buyer and studious artists.
THANKS for reading!
