Brooklyn, or Kings County for the uppity folk (or the cop who booked you while on the J train that one time), is the home of Barclay’s Center, Gino’s Italian Ices, Sir Friedrich Gretch, Coney Island, Benjamin Moore Paint, and the Brillo. Oh, and Semkeh, Brooklyn’s Lebanese cuisine. What should your taste buds expect once you’ve emerged victorious off the L-Tain, with no need for help from Google Maps app on your uncharged phone? (probably because it’s your 2nd time) Savory-ness!

Semkeh, located on 53 Morgan Ave, IS the place that should come to mind when words like ‘food’ and Brooklyn are ever used in combination.  Their menu is as diverse as the neighborhood of Bushwick is. Obviously, they serve primarily Middle Eastern-oriented dishes like Shawarma, Baba Ghanoush, and falafel. Semkeh also prepares Americanized dishes that are among their selection of main courses. Semkeh has two takes of the burger, the Falafel Burger (If this is your first time, order two – one to eat while there, and the 2nd to take home, trust me!) or the Semkeh burger with sweet potato fries on the side.

Upon arrival, you will be surprised by the convenience of two touch-screen menus near their outdoor seating area, featuring their entire menu (you can also order online beforehand, and save yourself time!) Either way, the MOST high-key feature would be the ability to receive text and updates on your orders, giving you time to go for a beer run or add time on the parking meter.

We, NYCTR Review, give Semkeh a 4.5 out of 5, with the only inconvenience being the commute. But if Brooklyn is home, forget about it. Eat until your heart’s content.

Bon-appetite,

Bennie Castle
